Creating a Gig

Your Gig is how you offer services on Fiverr. It's your storefront, the place where clients learn what you do, what's included, and how to place an order. This article walks you through each step of creating, configuring, and publishing your first Gig.

Overview

A Gig consists of a title, category, pricing packages, a description, requirements, and a media gallery. Once you publish, your Gig goes through an automatic review and if it meets Fiverr's policies, becomes visible to clients in the marketplace.

Gig creation is only available on desktop.

Before you begin

Make sure you have the following in place before you create your first Gig:

  1. Complete your freelancer profile. If you haven't switched to selling yet, you'll need to complete the freelancer onboarding process first.
  2. Use a desktop browser. Gigs can only be created and edited from a desktop device.
  3. Review Fiverr's Gig policies and Prohibited Services guidelines before you get started. Gigs that don't comply won't be approved.
  4. Make sure the service you plan to offer complies with Fiverr's Community Standards and doesn't violate the Terms of Service.
  5. Check your Gig allowance. The number of Gigs you can have active at once depends on your freelancer level:
    • New freelancers: up to 4 Gigs
    • Level 1 and Level 2: up to 10 Gigs
    • Top Rated: up to 30 Gigs

If you've reached your limit, you'll need to delete an existing Gig before you can create a new one.

Steps to create your Gig

To get started, go to My Business > Gigs > Create a New Gig, or click your profile picture and select Create a New Gig.

Step 1: Overview

This section sets the basic identity of your Gig.

  • Write a clear, descriptive title that tells clients exactly what you offer. Fiverr pre-fills the start of the title with "I will..." complete it from there.

    • Keep it specific and client-focused.
    • Avoid special characters such as &, /, ", and +.

Editing your Gig title later doesn't change its URL.

  • Select the category and subcategory that best match your service. Choose carefully, you can't change the category after the Gig is published.

Some categories are vetted-only, meaning Fiverr's team must evaluate and approve you before you can create Gigs in them.

  • Add up to five words or short phrases that describe your Gig. These help Fiverr categorize your service in the right context.
  • Add up to five tags to improve your Gig's visibility in search. Use short, relevant keywords that reflect what your clients are likely to search for.

Step 2: Scope & pricing

  • You can offer up to three packages: Basic, Standard, and Premium to give clients options at different price points. Use the Offer packages toggle in the top right to switch between a single flat rate and a multi-package setup.

    For each package, set:

    • A delivery time (in days)
    • A revision count
    • A price (in USD)
  • Fiverr requires you to offer at least one revision option per package. If your work involves significant customization or creative output, consider offering more.
  • Prices are set in US dollars, regardless of your local currency. The minimum starting price is $5, though some categories have a higher minimum.
  • You can offer optional add-ons that clients can purchase during checkout. One common option is Extra Fast Delivery, which lets you charge more for a faster turnaround; the accelerated delivery time must be shorter than your standard one.

Step 3: Description & FAQ

  • Write a description of your Gig (up to 1,200 characters). Be specific enough that clients know exactly what they're getting and whether your Gig fits their needs.
  • If your Gig involves a longer or more complex project, you can break it into milestones. This gives clients visibility into the project stages and helps you manage delivery expectations.
  • Add up to 10 frequently asked questions to reduce back-and-forth before orders are placed. Good topics to cover include delivery time, revision limits, what's included in each package, and any service-specific details.

Step 4: Requirements

Use this section to ask clients for any information you need before you can start their order. You can mark individual questions as required to prevent orders from starting without the necessary details.

Step 5: Gallery

  • You must upload at least one image to publish your Gig. You can add up to three images.
    • Use images you own; no copyrighted material or images sourced from the internet.
    • Samples of your work make strong Gig images.
    • Recommended size: 1280 x 769 px at 72 DPI.
    • Minimum size: 712 x 430 px at 72 DPI.
  • Videos are required for Gigs in the Video & Animation category and optional for all others. The video thumbnail takes priority and displays before your Gig images.
    • Length: 20–60 seconds.
    • File size: under 50 MB.
    • Do not include copyrighted audio, visuals, or watermarks you don't own.
  • You can upload up to two PDFs to showcase document-based work samples. Only the first three pages of each PDF are displayed. This field is optional.

PDFs in your Gig gallery are for preview only; clients cannot download them.

Step 6: Publish

  • Before you publish, indicate whether you're a US person. US-based freelancers are also required to submit a W-9 form. EU freelancers may need to complete a DAC7 form where applicable. All freelancers must complete personal and business information verification for compliance purposes.
  • If you haven't already, complete phone verification before publishing.
  • Once all required steps are complete, click Publish Gig. Your Gig will go through an automatic review. If it meets Fiverr's policies, it will be approved and become visible in the marketplace.

If your Gig includes a video, the Gig itself may be approved automatically, but the video stays pending until it's reviewed separately.

Best practices

  • Keep your Gig consistent over time. If you fundamentally change the service you're offering, for example, switching from logo design to voiceover work, Fiverr may remove the Gig from search results. The reviews, ratings, and portfolio on your Gig are tied to the original service. If you want to offer a new type of service, create a new Gig instead.
  • Use all five search tags. Relevant, specific tags significantly improve your Gig's discoverability.
  • Add FAQs from the start. Pre-answering common questions reduces messages before orders and builds client confidence.
  • Upload high-quality images. Your Gig image is the first thing clients see; make it representative of your actual work.
  • Set realistic delivery times. Under-promising and over-delivering is better for your reviews than the reverse.
  • Batch your edits. If you need to update multiple things, do them together. Frequent small changes can cause temporary dips in visibility while the system re-indexes your Gig.

Frequently asked questions

  • It depends on your freelancer level: New (up to 4), Level 1 & 2 (up to 10), Top Rated (up to 30). If you've hit your limit, delete an existing Gig to make room for a new one.
  • No. The category is locked once the Gig is published. Choose it carefully during setup. If a category or subcategory appears greyed out or disabled, it may be temporarily locked due to catalog maintenance or moderation; contact Support with the category path you're targeting and they can check availability.
  • All of the following must be in place before you can publish:
    • A display name on your profile
    • W-9 submitted (US freelancers) or DAC7 where required (EU freelancers)
    • Phone verification completed
    • Email verified
    • Personal and business information verified (KYC)
    • At least one image uploaded in the Gallery
  • A few things to check:

    • Make sure you're on a desktop or laptop. Gig creation and publishing aren't supported on mobile browsers or the Fiverr app.
    • Switch to Selling mode. Click your profile picture and select Switch to Selling, then navigate to your Gig.
    • Complete all required sections: Overview, Pricing, Description & FAQ, Requirements, and Gallery.
    • Verify your account. Some publishing steps are blocked until email and phone are both verified, and identity verification (KYC) is complete.
    • Watch for banners. If additional steps are needed, Fiverr shows a notification; follow the prompts.

Once everything is in place, click Publish. If the Gig is denied after review, check the reason provided, fix any policy issues, and resubmit.

  • If your profile shows Verified but publishing is still blocked or you're repeatedly prompted to verify, try the following:
    • Confirm your freelancer profile is fully approved and all onboarding steps are complete, including tax forms (W-9 for US, DAC7 for EU where applicable) and setting a display name.
    • Sign out and back in, then clear your cache and cookies or try a different browser or device.
    • If the issue continues, contact Support. Share a screenshot showing the Verified status alongside the prompt asking you to verify again, and ask them to review your seller profile approval and verification status.
  • Some specific errors you might encounter:

    • "Tag list must contain at least 1 tag" but no Search tags field is visible; this is usually a display issue. Try a hard refresh (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+R) or switch to a different browser.
    • "This option is no longer supported" when setting delivery time; clear your cache and reload. If the error persists, try a different browser.
    • Media upload failures (images, audio) despite files meeting requirements; re-encode the file with standard settings and rename it using only letters, numbers, and hyphens (no spaces or special characters).
    • Video thumbnail picker crashes or closes unexpectedly; disable browser extensions, try incognito mode, or switch to a different browser.

General quick fixes that resolve most creation errors:

    • Update your browser to the latest version.
    • Clear cache and cookies, then hard refresh.
    • Disable ad blockers, script blockers, VPNs, and proxies.
    • Try a different browser and device.

If none of these work, capture a screenshot of the error and contact Fiverr Support.

  • If you see a message like "Gig service updater sort is not included in the list" or your changes won't save, try the following:

    • Clear your browser cache and cookies.
    • Disable VPNs, ad blockers, and browser extensions.
    • Switch to a different browser or device.

If your Gig was denied after you made content changes, this usually means the core service was altered from what was originally published. In that case, create a new Gig in the category that matches the updated service, and keep your existing Gig consistent with its original offering if you plan to keep it active.

If the issue continues, open a Support ticket and include a screenshot of the full error message and your Gig URL.

  • Your Gig goes through an automatic review. If it passes, it becomes searchable in the marketplace. If it doesn't meet Fiverr's policies, you'll receive instructions to edit and resubmit.
  • This usually means a validation or compliance issue was detected after submission. Common causes include:

    • A gallery asset (image or video) was rejected for not meeting guidelines.
    • The title, description, or tags contain policy-violating content (such as external contact details or prohibited claims).
    • An account-level task changed status, for example, identity verification expired or a tax form became required.
    • A category or metadata mismatch that requires correction.

Review all Gig tabs for warnings, fix any flagged content, and make sure your account tasks show as approved. Replace or remove any problematic gallery assets; you need at least one compliant image, then republish. If it reverts again, contact Support and ask them to identify the specific blocking rule.

  • The most common reasons:

    • The Gig is in Draft or paused. Videos won't be reviewed until the Gig is published and active. Publish or unpause your Gig to start the review.
    • The upload didn't complete correctly. A network hiccup can leave a placeholder stuck on Processing. Re-upload the file and save.
    • The file doesn't meet the required specs: 20–60 seconds, 16:9 aspect ratio, minimum 1280x720 resolution, MP4 format (H.264 + AAC), up to 5 GB.
    • The filename contains special characters, emojis, or spaces. Rename it using only letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores.
    • The video may be under a moderation hold if it contains disallowed content, such as contact details.

    To fix a stuck video:

    • Re-encode the file using HandBrake or similar: MP4, H.264, AAC 128 kbps, constant frame rate, 16:9 frame size with no black bars. Enable "Web Optimized" or "Fast Start" so the metadata sits at the start of the file.
    • Rename the file simply (for example: my_gig_video.mp4) and re-upload.
    • Upload from a desktop browser with extensions disabled, cache cleared, and no VPN active.

If the video is still stuck after 7 days on an active, published Gig, contact Support with screenshots and a screen recording of your upload steps.

Avoid uploading the same video multiple times in rapid succession. Upload once with the corrected file and wait 24–48 hours before following up.

  • No. PDFs added to your Gig gallery are for preview only. Clients can view them directly on your Gig page, but downloading is not available. To keep previews loading quickly, use compressed, well-organized PDFs and avoid very large file sizes.
  • Edits don't reset your impression history, but they can affect current and future visibility:

    • Title, description, and pricing: Optimizing these generally won't hurt long-term ranking, but the system may need time to re-index your Gig, which can cause a temporary dip in impressions.
    • Tags: Changing keywords affects which searches you appear in. If you target narrower or lower-volume terms, impressions can drop. Aim for accurate, client-aligned keywords.
    • Thumbnail and gallery media: Stronger visuals that match client intent tend to improve click-through rate. Weaker visuals can reduce it.
    • Video: Adding or replacing a video can improve engagement but may trigger a short re-indexing period.
    • Manual review: Some edits trigger a review, during which your Gig's visibility may be limited for up to 48 hours.

Batch meaningful improvements together rather than making frequent small changes, and monitor your impressions and clicks for at least 7–14 days after any update.
