What are Fiverr Ads?
Fiverr Ads uses an auctioning system to place your Gigs where they perform best. A higher Ad placement increases your Gig’s visibility, leading to more clicks and helps boost your overall sales.
-
- Level 1 and Level 2 freelancers
- Top Rated freelancers
- Pro freelancers
-
Only active Gigs are eligible for Fiverr Ads.
All services are eligible, excluding:
- Tax Consulting services found in our Financial Consulting service category
- Accounting & Bookkeeping services under the Financial Consulting service category
- All of the Legal Consulting service category
How to set up my Fiverr Ads campaign?
- Go to the Fiverr Ads dashboard by navigating to the header of your freelancer profile and clicking Growth & Marketing > Fiverr Ads
- Choose the Gigs you would like to promote
- Pick your daily spend limit (you can change these limits at any time)
- Fiverr's smart algorithm will handle the rest, optimizing your Ads for the best performance
How do Fiverr Ads work?
Fiverr Ads uses a "first-price auction" mechanism. Your placement is determined by:
-
This represents how well your service matches a specific client's needs. Factors include:
- Gig appearance quality: Use appealing titles and high-resolution videos or images.
- Gig delivery quality: Your performance within orders, communication, and client satisfaction are all taken into account.
To increase your Gigs’ chances of winning an Ad auction, we highly recommend applying the best practices used to optimize your Gigs. Learn more tips and tricks to improve your Gigs with Gigs best practices and Freelancer best practices.
- A bid is the highest amount you are willing to pay per click (also known as cost per click, CPC).
- Automatic bidding: Bids are automatically set by Fiverr to keep your Ad competitive.
- CPC cap: You can set a maximum limit for each click. Note that a low CPC cap may make you less competitive in auctions for high-valued clients.
- Bidding formula: This considers your Conversion Rate (CR), Revenue per click, competition in your category, and your Return Over Ad Spend (ROAS).
How am I charged for Ads?
With Fiverr Ads, you only pay when clients click on your Ads. You are not charged for views (impressions) of your Ads. What you pay depends on how many clients click on your Ads, and how valuable your Ad placement is.
Note that views or even “hovering” over a sample video is not considered a click and will not be charged.
-
CPC can vary for each service, and for each time it's displayed to clients.
- Your dashboard counts the clicks and calculates the average click cost.
- By multiplying these two variables of clicks and average click cost, you can understand the amount "spent".
Your actual cost per click may be lower than your bid as you will only pay the minimum amount needed to win over other freelancer’s bids. This means that each click can have varying amounts.
-
This is the maximum amount that you are willing to pay per click on your Ad. A higher bid cap helps you get a better ad placement, and, coupled with the fact that Fiverr will optimize your bid selection for you, your Ad will be placed as optimally as possible at the lowest cost to you.
Therefore, bids can change to keep your Ad competitive in a given auction, but you will only pay when a client clicks on your ad.
Factors that affect the bid’s amount’s calculation are:
- Conversion rate (CR): The likelihood of receiving an order once the ad has been clicked.
- Revenue per click: How valuable a click is to the freelancer. For example, if, on average, 10 clicks generate one order of $50, that means that every click is worth $5.
- Competition: The level of competition in the specific service category at the time of the potential client’s search. The more freelancers competing in a domain, the higher the bid will be.
- Return over ad spend (ROAS): The smart algorithm aims to optimize the seller's ROAS over time.
Tip: Select the “No CPC cap” option, which will allow us to set the optimal bid on your behalf, with up to $6 per click.
- Payments occur once per month. Costs are deducted from your Fiverr balance first. If funds are insufficient, the remaining balance is charged to your saved payment method (Credit Card/PayPal) or future earnings.
The amounts on your dashboard do not include taxes. Taxes are calculated at the end of the month. You will receive an invoice if you have enabled this option in your billing history. - Members of Seller Plus Standard and Premium receive a $5 monthly credit toward Fiverr Ads. This credit is applied automatically and does not roll over.
- Beginning April 2025, regional taxes (VAT/GST/HST) may be applied based on your location. To ensure accurate charging or tax-exempt status, update your Billing information under your profile settings.
Taxes are charged on the cost of the Ads from each month and are calculated at the end of the month.

Where will clients see my Ads?
To increase your chances of converting your Ad to an order, Fiverr will only show your Ads to the most relevant clients and will optimize the bid that will deliver the best performance for your campaign.
Fiverr Ads allows your advertisements to appear in prime locations across the platform. This includes the top of Fiverr's search results, category pages, and various other Fiverr pages on web and the mobile apps, as well as in clients' inboxes.
- Inbox Ads are advertisements shown directly in a client's conversation list as a "contact card" with an Ad badge.
- How it works: When a client clicks the card, it opens a conversation widget where they can view your service, check your profile, or send a message.
- Charging: You are not charged for the initial click to open the ad (external interaction). You are only charged for internal interactions, such as clicking your Gig card, your profile, or when the client sends you a message.
- Client control: Clients can hide specific Ads they find irrelevant. Hiding Ads will not affect your organic rating.
How do I optimize my Ads?
- Track your performance using the following metrics on your Ads dashboard:
- Impressions: How many times your Gig was seen as an ad. If impressions are high but clicks are low, consider updating your Gig card appearance.
- Clicks: Total times clients clicked your ad. Multiple clicks from the same user only count as one click.
- Orders: Total orders placed within a 30-day "attribution window" from the last click.
- Spend vs. Sales: Compare your total ad costs against the revenue generated to understand your campaign's success.
- To achieve the most optimal ad placement and convert leads:
- Winning the lead: Respond fast to messages, ask for details, and send custom offers to seal the deal.
- Professional imagery: Use a high-quality profile picture showing your face to build trust.
- Gig details: Ensure your Gig image and title are short, concise, and professional.
- Spam protection: Fiverr implements safeguards to identify and cancel charges from "click fraud." If a spammer is detected, you will not be charged for those clicks.
- Ads on hold: If your ads are not visible, check your Earnings page for outstanding debts. Settle these via the "pay overdraft balance" button to resume your ads.
FAQs
- Ads are shown to clients we believe are most likely to be interested in your services based on their behavior and search intent.
- Clients do not get push notifications for the Ad itself, but you will receive a notification like a regular message once a client responds to your Inbox Ad.
- Inbox Ads are an expansion of the program. There is no separate opt-out; simply toggle off "Promote" on your Gigs to stop all advertising.
- Our user-level attribution model tracks the initial engagement. If a client clicks Gig X but buys Gig Y within 30 days, the click is attributed to Gig X and the order to Gig Y.
Combine these strategies to scale your business and maintain a competitive edge on Fiverr.
