Consultations let you book a paid video call with a freelancer before placing an order. It's a chance to discuss your project in detail, understand exactly what the freelancer offers, and make sure you're choosing the right person before committing to a full order. This article will outline the full consultation process.
How to find a freelancer offering consultations
Consultations are only available on profiles of eligible freelancers (Level 2, Top Rated, Pro, and Agencies). Booking is available on the Fiverr website only, not on the iOS or Android apps.
You can find freelancers who offer consultations in two ways:
- Search filter: When browsing search results, click Service options and look for the consultation option in the dropdown.
- Freelancer profile: Look for the Book a consultation button on a freelancer's profile or service page, or inside the Contact me dropdown. Read the freelancer's consultation description to understand what to expect from the call.
How to book a consultation
- Click Book a consultation on the freelancer's profile or service page.
- Choose how long you'd like to meet, either 30 or 60 minutes. The freelancer sets which options are available.
- Select a date and time. All available slots are shown in your local time.
- Click Continue to reserve your slot.
- Enter your payment details and complete payment. You have up to 1 hour to pay. If you miss this window, your slot will be released and you'll need to choose a new time.
After payment is confirmed, you'll receive a confirmation email with your consultation details. A reminder email will be sent 15–45 minutes before the call.
Filling in your consultation requirements
Once payment is complete, you'll be asked to fill in a short requirements form so the freelancer can prepare for your call. These questions are set by Fiverr. Some fields are optional, but the more detail you provide, the more productive your consultation will be.
Include any relevant project files or context that will help the freelancer understand your needs before the meeting. Once done, click Submit requirements.
Joining the call & after the consultation
-
When it's time for your consultation, click the Join button to start the video call. You can find it on your Orders page or in the reminder email.
If you need to reschedule, return to the order chat and let the freelancer know. The freelancer will need to initiate the call in that case; it won't start automatically.
- After the consultation you have the following options:
- Recording: The call is recorded and available to you for 30 days via the order's page.
- Written summary: The freelancer will write up a summary of your consultation. This is the order's delivery and should arrive within 10 days of the order date. If it's not delivered within 10 days, it is considered late.
- Review: Once the summary is delivered, you can leave a review for the freelancer, just like a regular order.
Cancellations & rescheduling
Cancellations and refunds follow the same process as any regular order. You can cancel via the Resolution Center.
- If the freelancer misses the call: This is treated the same as an undelivered order.
- If you miss the call: We recommend reaching out to the freelancer to reschedule before cancelling.
- To reschedule: Cancel the original consultation and place a new one at a different time. If you arrange a new time without cancelling first, your reminder emails will still reflect the original booking date and time.
