Paid video consultations for freelancers

The Paid video consultations feature will allow eligible freelancers to offer clients the option to schedule and book consultations.

  • Leave a great first impression of your expertise and skills before they choose to purchase an order

About paid video consultations

Eligible freelancers (Level Two, Top Rated, Pro Talent, and Fiverr agencies) will have the Paid video consultations tool directly on their freelancer profile and Gig’s page.

Note: This tool works just like a regular Gig when it comes to client reviews, cancellations & refunds, and freelancer ratings.

Let's review what you need to know before and after a client books a consultation.

    1. Freelancers will be able to access the feature’s settings on their Profile (preview mode).

    2. Clients will be able to Book a video consultation via the freelancer’s Profile.

      Note: Clients will be able to select a date two hours from the time they’re looking for availability and up to one week. For example, let's say today is Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 and a client wants to schedule a consultation.
      Then the client can book a time from Tuesday, January 16th, 2024-Tuesday January 23, 2024.


    3. Clients will have to fill out a form with their order’s requirements (preset questions by Fiverr) when they book the consultation so that you can review it before your meeting.

    4. As soon as your client selects and reserves a scheduled time for a consultation, an event will be created on your calendar with the event title: “Fiverr consultation Details TBD”.

    5. The event will be replaced with more details once the client completes payment.

      Note: After payment, you'll receive:

      • Confirmation of payment
      • A reminder email 15-45 minutes before the scheduled call

    6. If the client doesn’t complete the payment within an hour, the consultation and calendar event will be canceled, and that time slot will become available again.

      Note: Some clients might take more than an hour to complete payment, and the event will be created only if the time slot is still available.

    7. Once the client has filled out the requirements, an automated message will be sent to the client in the order chat.

      Note: The freelancer's name will be displayed as the sender. The message will include details like what time the consultation will take place (in the client’s timezone) and when they should expect the written summary.
    1. Once your client schedules a consultation with you, your meeting will take place via a Zoom video call.

      Note: Make sure to review your client’s requirements the client submitted in advance.
    2. Following your consultation, you'll need to send your client a written summary of your discussion. This summary serves as the order's delivery. You have up to 10 days from the day the client placed the order (not necessarily the consultation date) to deliver the summary. While there's no same-day deadline, exceeding 10 days will be considered late.

      For example, if the client booked on Monday, January 15th, 2024, the delivery date for the summary is Thursday, January 25th, 2024, regardless of the consultation date.

    3. Your clients can access the recording for a limited time through the order’s page as well. 

    Please note: If you agree to reschedule a time without canceling first:

    • The reminder email will be for the original date and time that was booked during the order process—not the new rescheduled date.
    • The communications you’ll receive from Fiverr (e.g., email reminders) won't be updated with the new date/time.
    • freelancers will need to start the call in this case—it won’t initiate automatically.

How to set up consultations

  1. Go to 'Manage consultations' to turn on the consultation option.
  2. Select your preferred settings (availability and pricing) and save your settings.

    • Your availability for consultations on Fiverr:
      1. Integrate with your Google/Office calendar.
      2. Select your general availability.
        For example: Monday-Thursday, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
    • The pricing and package details of your consultations:
      1. Choose the session durations you offer. This can be 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or both.
      2. Set clear prices for each session length.
      3. Include a description for potential clients. This description should explain what your consultations cover, what clients need to prepare beforehand, and the languages you offer, or any other helpful details. 
  3. Once you connect your calendar, the feature will automatically update your availability when you have an existing calendar event scheduled.

How to join your video consultations

To join your scheduled video call, all you need to do is click the "Join" button.

You can access the Join button or video call link via:

  • The order's page
  • Your calendar event
  • Your reminder email

Tips for consultations

Let’s review some helpful tips for the entire process of the paid consultations feature and the answers to some of FAQs for freelancers.

  • Before your consultation, make sure to:

    1. Come prepared
      • Research and review the client’s business/background details they sent before the call
      • Go over the requirements form they filled out, link to their website if they sent it to you, etc.

    2. Write down notes/points
      • Write down pointers or questions for the conversation in advance, so you won’t forget to cover any info needed to know or that you want to share

    3. Set up your workspace
      • Choose a suitable place (e.g. your office, a corner in your living room, etc.)
        • Your background should look tidy, well-lit, and quiet
      • Have pen & paper or a notes app on your computer

    4. Look good and professional
      • Look presentable and dress appropriately

    5. Internet connection
      • Have a good internet connection to avoid any disruptions that can cause misunderstandings and frustration
  • During your consultation, make sure to:

    1. Be on time
      • Join a few minutes early to have enough time, in case you need to resolve any technical issues
      • Don’t keep your client waiting

    2. Turn on your camera
      • Show your face to help them to connect with you
        Remember: The purpose of the video consultation is to give clients a chance to get to know you better and put trust in you.

    3. Be friendly and focused
      • Treat your client with kindness and respect
      • Be mindful of your choice of words
      • Speak clearly, and answer questions in a calm, professional manner

    4. Listen to them
      • Maintain eye contact and pay attention to what your client is saying/asking
      • Be patient and respectful, and give them time to explain their project's needs

    5. Be honest if you don’t know
      • If a question catches you off guard, don’t panic—tell them that you’ll check it, and get back to them
        Remember: It’s okay if you don't have all the answers at hand.
  • After your Consultation, make sure to:

    1. Send the summary
      • Write a clear and structured summary of the call
      • Add the next steps, helpful links/readings
      • Send it as soon as possible, after the call is over

    2. Ask for feedback
      • Ask your clients for feedback after the consultation call so that you can improve your services for future clients

  • Yes, you can book a consultation directly on a freelancer's profile and Gig’s page. From the gig page, click “Contact me” to open up the drop down menu to book a consultation.
  • Yes, each Gig listing will indicate that paid video consultations are available under the 'Service Offerings' filter during searches.
  • Only 30 and 60-minute consultations are available at the moment.
  • Cancellation works just like any regular order—meaning, if they want to reschedule, you’ll need to cancel, and have the client order again.

    Note: Missing your consultation is the same as not delivering your order.
  • No, it’s not possible at the moment. We recommend freelancers make it very clear in the description what the client can expect in the consultation call in order to reduce cancellations.
  • Yes, you can decide which session length options (30 or 60 minutes) are active, as well as, deactivate both.
  • There are no specific guidelines, but we recommend you send a written summary tailored to your client’s project needs and expectations (e.g. what was discussed, the next steps, etc.). Read more in the 'Tips: After your video consultations' section
  • You can include which languages you offer your consultation calls in the description.
  • Yes, the calls are recorded and monitored by Fiverr and there is also a report button.
