Offering paid video consultations to clients

Paid video consultations let you connect with clients before they place a full order. You can discuss a client's project needs, align expectations, and leave a strong first impression of your expertise and skills. Using consultations helps you build trust with clients and can lead to more orders.

How paid video consultations work

A paid video consultation works like a regular Gig when it comes to client reviews, cancellations, refunds, and freelancer ratings. Turning on the feature does not count toward your active Gig count.

  1. You need Level Two, Top Rated, or Pro Talent status to use this feature. It unlocks automatically once you reach an eligible level.
  2. You need to connect a Google Calendar or Office (Microsoft) calendar to accept bookings. iCloud calendars are not supported.
  3. Go to Manage consultations in your Fiverr account to turn on the feature and set up your availability and pricing.
  4. Paid video consultations are not available on the Fiverr iOS or Android app. Use a desktop or web browser to set up and manage your consultations.
  5. The Request to order feature is not available on paid consultation Gigs.
  6. If you're an Agency, this feature isn't available to you. Instead, you can invite clients to a free meeting. Learn more about agencies with Fiverr agencies.
  • Here is what happens before a client books:

    • Your profile shows the paid video consultations tool once you become eligible.
    • Clients book a video consultation through your profile. They can choose a time starting two hours from when they are looking for availability, up to one week out.
    • Clients fill out a requirements form with preset questions when they book, so you can review their answers before the meeting.
    • Once a client selects and reserves a time, we create a calendar event titled "Fiverr consultation, details TBD."
    • We update the event with full details once the client completes payment.
    • If a client does not complete payment within an hour, we cancel the consultation and calendar event, and the time slot becomes available again.
    • After the client submits their requirements, we send them an automated message in the order chat that displays your name as the sender. The message includes the consultation time in the client's timezone and when they can expect your written summary.

After payment, you receive a payment confirmation and a reminder email 15 to 45 minutes before the scheduled call.

  • Here is what happens after the consultation:

    • You meet with your client through a Zoom video call at the scheduled time. Review the requirements your client submitted before the call.
    • You send your client a written summary of the discussion. This summary serves as your order delivery.
    • You have up to ten days from the day the client placed the order, not the consultation date, to deliver the summary.
    • Your client can access the recording of the call for 30 days through the order page.

If you agree to reschedule a consultation without canceling it first, we do not update your reminder email or other Fiverr communications with the new date and time, and you need to start the call yourself since it does not start automatically.

How to set up and use paid video consultations

Set up your consultations

  1. Go to your freelancer profile.
  2. Click Manage consultations on the right-hand panel to turn on the consultation option.
  3. Connect your Google or Office calendar.
  4. Select your general availability, for example Monday through Thursday, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
  5. Choose the session lengths you want to offer: 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or both. Turning off both options pauses the feature until you turn one back on.
  6. Set a price for each session length.
  7. Add a description that explains what your consultations cover, what clients should prepare beforehand, and which languages you offer.

Once you connect your calendar, we automatically update your availability whenever you have an existing calendar event scheduled.

Best practices for your consultations

    • Review the client's business or background details and their requirements form, including any links they shared, before the call.
    • Write down notes or questions in advance so you do not forget anything you want to cover.
    • Set up your workspace in a tidy, well-lit, and quiet location, and keep pen and paper or a notes app nearby.
    • Dress and present yourself professionally.
    • Check your internet connection to avoid disruptions.
    • Join a few minutes early so you have time to resolve any technical issues, and do not keep your client waiting.
    • Turn on your camera so your client can connect with you and build trust in you.
    • Treat your client with kindness and respect, and speak clearly and calmly.
    • Listen closely to your client and give them time to explain their project needs.
    • If a question catches you off guard, let your client know you will check and get back to them.
    • Write a clear, structured summary of the call, including next steps and helpful links, and send it as soon as possible.
    • Ask your client for feedback so you can improve your consultations for future clients.

Missing your consultation counts the same as not delivering your order.
