Logo Maker quick tip: Select an accurate industry for your logo

We know that sometimes it’s tempting to add as many options as possible, however, it’s important to be industry-specific with logos. Accuracy helps people find exactly what they're looking for, which will increase the chances of your logos getting purchased.

The more accurate you are with your logo’s “industry”, the more likely your logo will surface for the right clients. Go the extra mile to find the right fit—you’ll thank yourself later!

High logo ranking

Logo rankings come from your logo performance. A high logo ranking is what gets your logo to the top of suggestions for clients.

So how do you make sure my logo maximizes its potential?

  • When possible, pick a sub-industry (or sub-sub-industry)
A sub-industry already aims for a more niche audience to begin with—which raises your chances of being picked out of the whole set of offerings. Avoid overtagging all elements in the logos. If it's a logo with a dog, clients are more likely to look for "dog" rather than "tail"- ask yourself what is the main subject(s) of the logo and avoid your logo being seen where it is less relevant and as a result decreases its ranking.
  • Pick the industry where your logo is most likely to shine
Remember, accuracy comes from choosing an industry that fits your logo better than all others. So make sure to select accurate industries and be as specific as you can.

Head-industry vs. sub-industry

In the Logo Maker we have two types of industries: head-industry and sub-industry.

Every head-industry includes all sub-industries within them. However, sub-industries have their own sub-sub-industries (like a subcategory), too!
Subcategories have their own subcategories. When choosing a head-industry you are also choosing every subcategory (and subcategories of subcategories) within it.

When you select what industries is relevant for your logos, take into consideration the hierarchies of industries and what falls under each “umbrella” of that category.

How to select an accurate industry

Pro tip: Be specific when adding your logo's industry.

In this case, being specific means that it’s crucial to select a sub-industry (or a sub-sub-industry) when there is an option to.
If not, then your logo will show up in searches that are less relevant, because it will show up in all of the categories related to the head-industry.

For example:
If your logo is for a vineyard or wine brand, your first thought might be to select “Food and beverages”.
However, the head-industry “Food and beverage” includes sub-industries like “Bakeries & Baked goods”, “Bars”, “Cafes & Coffee shops”, “Catering”, and many more.

This means that your logo will come up in searches for ‘Cafes & Coffee shops”, which is less relevant.

To get more specific and accurate, try to locate a sub-industry or sub-sub-industry to optimize your logo’s ranking and performance.
For the example above, the best choice would be “Winery”.

Food and beverage Food & Beverage Products supplying/manufacturing → Winery

Remember:
Less relevant industries = lower performance, less exposure, and decreased ranking
More relevant industries = higher performance and increased ranking
