Background checks on Fiverr Pro

Fiverr offers background checks to help Pro clients hire with confidence. By ordering this service, organizations can verify a freelancer's past details and criminal history to ensure they meet specific business and compliance requirements.

  • What the service provides: Facilitates international or national criminal history searches through a trusted third-party provider.
  • Why it's useful: Provides an extra layer of security and helps organizations confirm a freelancer’s history before starting a project.
  • Who it’s for: This service is available for Fiverr Pro clients.

Before you begin

  • Eligibility: The background check process is handled by a trusted third-party, Checkr, and not directly by Fiverr. Access to and use of criminal information may be subject to country-specific restrictions.
  • Setup required: First-time users must initiate the process via a freelancer's profile or the banner next to inbox messages.
  • Pricing: Background check pricing depends on the freelancer’s location:
    • United States: $60 (before fees and taxes)
    • Outside the United States: $110 (before fees and taxes)
  • Payment:
    • This service can’t be paid for with Fiverr credits or promo codes.
    • You must use an available payment method or your existing deposit balance.
    • Advanced plan Pro clients are eligible for one free background check a month and additional checks at a 10% discount. Check your Fiverr Pro subscription plan for more information.

How it works

The type of check performed depends on the freelancer's location and local regulations:

  • Reviews major offense conviction records in the freelancer’s home country.
  • Scans public lists, media sources, and private records to identify criminal activity.
  • A standard search performed for all freelancers based in the United States (USA).

Understanding statuses

You can track the progress of a check directly in your dashboard.

  • Clear: The search returned no records.
  • Issues found: The report contains information that requires your manual review.

Important: You must review the report in both cases and make hiring decisions based on your own business requirements.

Step-by-step process

  1. Initiate the request:
    • New users: Go to the freelancer's profile or inbox and click the Ensure this freelancer is compliant with your business banner, then select Background check.
    • Existing users: Click Background check located under the freelancer's profile or in your inbox.
  2. Complete payment: Select your payment method. If your Fiverr balance is lower than the total cost, you will be charged the difference.
  3. Wait for processing: The total process can take up to 12 days. The freelancer has 7 days to give consent, followed by up to 5 days for the review.
  4. Download the report: Once you receive an email notification that the check is complete, click Get report next to the status to download the full file.

Best practices

  • Download immediately: Reports are only available for 45 days. After this period, they are permanently removed and cannot be retrieved.
  • Save local copies: Be sure to save the report to your computer before the 45-day window expires.
  • Manage access: While all team members can see the result status, only the Admin or the member who requested the check can download the full report.
