Fiverr Pro clients can request compliance services from freelancers they work with on the platform. These services, which include a background check, a worker classification audit, and legal document signing, help clients meet their legal and organizational requirements. Compliance services are available to all Pro clients, and all freelancers on Fiverr can receive these requests from a Pro client.
Before you begin
- Background checks and worker classification audits cannot be requested from agencies. Legal document requests can be sent to agencies.
- You will receive all requests and communications by email. You do not manage these requests inside the Fiverr platform.
Compliance services overview
There are three compliance services a Pro client can request from you:
- Background check
- Worker classification audit
- Legal document signing
Each service is described in detail below.
Declining a compliance service request does not affect your Fiverr score, level, visibility, or opportunities on the platform. However, it may influence the client's decision to continue working with you. It is always best to communicate and agree with the client first.
Background check
A background check verifies information about your past, which may include your criminal, employment, education, and credit history. Fiverr uses a trusted third-party provider called Checkr to run background checks.
How it works
- You receive an email from Fiverr explaining that a client has requested a background check.
- You also receive an email from Checkr with a disclosure form. You must electronically sign the disclosure, consent, and authorization form to proceed.
- You have 7 days to give your consent through Checkr. If you do not respond within this timeframe, the request expires, and the client is notified.
- Once you complete onboarding with Checkr, the background check begins. Checkr typically completes the process within 3 to 5 business days.
- Both you and the client receive an email confirmation when the check is complete.
Background check results
The results of your background check are visible only to you and the requesting client. They are not visible to anyone else on the marketplace.
The client sees one of two results: Clear or Issues Found. If you were onboarded to Checkr through the process, you can log into your Checkr account to view your results.
Background check results do not expire.
Disputing results: If you believe your background check results are inaccurate, you can initiate a dispute directly with Checkr.
Worker classification audit
A worker classification audit determines whether you are correctly classified as an independent contractor or an employee in your working relationship with a client. The audit helps clients comply with relevant labor laws and regulations. Fiverr uses a third-party provider called Greenlight to conduct these audits.
This service is relevant when a client has worked with you for a longer period of time and has made at least one completed payment to you, either for a specific order or for hourly services.
How it works
- You receive an email from Fiverr stating that a client has requested a worker classification audit and that your cooperation is required.
- You also receive an email from Greenlight, our third-party provider, requesting that you electronically sign a disclosure, consent, and authorization form and complete an onboarding process.
- You must also answer questions about your working relationship with the client during the Greenlight onboarding process.
- You have up to 14 days to complete the onboarding process. If you do not respond within this timeframe, the invite expires, and the client is notified.
- Once the audit is complete, both you and the client receive an email with the results. You may also log into your Greenlight account to view further details.
Audit results
The results of the worker classification audit are visible only to you and the requesting client.
Results are either Low Risk or High Risk:
- Low Risk means you are at very low risk of being misclassified as an employee in the client's records.
- High Risk means there is a significant likelihood of misclassification, which may have legal implications for the client.
You will receive an email letting you know how you were classified. The full high/low-risk indications are visible to the client only.
The outcome of a worker classification audit is final and cannot be disputed or changed. The audit process is handled by Greenlight and not directly by Fiverr. The client retains full discretion in deciding whether to continue working with you based on the results.
Legal document signing
A Pro client may ask you to sign a legal document, such as a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) or another type of business agreement. This helps clients protect their information and establish formal agreements before or during a project. Fiverr uses DocuSign to manage legal document signing.
How it works
- You receive an email from Fiverr letting you know a client has sent you a legal document to sign.
- You also receive an email from DocuSign with a link to review and sign the document.
- You have up to 30 days to sign the document. If the document is not signed within 30 days, the DocuSign link expires and the client will need to resubmit the request.
- Once you sign the document through DocuSign, you become legally compliant with the client's request. The client can then view and download the signed document.
Legal document requests can be sent to agencies as well as individual freelancers.
